Book Review ~ The Money Saving Mom’s Budget

posted on January 13th, 2012

I had the privilege of reading a pre-release copy of Crystal Paine’s… AKA: Money Saving Mom’s book, The Money Saving Mom’s Budget. First of all I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was pleasantly surprised to learn new techniques, that have been life changing for my family. I have always considered myself a frugal person. However, The Money Saving Mom’s Budget has taught me a few new tricks!

Several evenings while sitting on my couch reading this book, I would get so excited! I wanted to run to the computer and share with you guys what I had learned. It was very hard not to ruin the “surprise” and let you read it for yourself!  Not only does Crystal Paine teach how to obtain a budget makeover, she offers a lifestyle makeover.  That is the key to really changing your habits. Learn how to start fresh and really make an impact on your household. From your role as a single person, wife, or mother, no matter what your status is, you can benefit from the principles taught in The Money Saving Mom’s Budget.

My favorite part of this book is in Chapter 7:
Twenty-Five Ways To Lower Your Grocery Bill Without Clipping Coupons
I know this may come as a shock to most of you..but like I said before I am a frugal person, especially when it comes to couponing. However, this chapter takes it 25 steps further! It is like icing on the cake. :) Just a few to mention are how to Batch Cook and Meatless Meal Night. She shares how to set aside 2 hours on a weekend to cook items and freeze them. This makes for an easy menu plan and less drive thru evenings when you are tired and worn out. She also suggest incorporating a meatless meal night once a week and offers great tips on how to use meat as a condiment.

Another thing I would like to mention is that all proceeds from the sale of The Money Saving Mom’s Budget will go to Compassion International. This is a charity that is very close to my own heart. My family has been sponsoring a child, Wahab for almost 4 years now through Compassion. This is a great Christian Nonprofit Organization that changes the lives of many less fortunate children.
