I have canned for many years, we have an “outside” garden and we built a green house using almost all recycled stuff. It’s enclosed with recycled windows with screens and all so it can vent. I’m over loaded with veggies, I have 4 kids and 11 grandkids I share my goodies with, I give them as gifts at Christmas and Thanksgiving. I really need more stuff.

I tried canning by reading a book and well they didnt work out so well. I wasted alot of my first ever garden crop. I was able to use the salsa I made from my tomatoes because when they didnt seal right I opened the jars back up and froze it in baggies. my pickles we just kept in the fridge and ate them for a couple of weeks. but the rest didnt make it past a week in the fridge. I haven t done another garden since. I planted some apple trees and a peach tree hoping to get some fruit from them in a year or two. would love to learn the right way to can.

If not this prize woud go to her for Christmas. If she has, I will keep it and learn how to can. After all, they now say you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Yes, I canned for many years. This would probably be a Christmas gift for my sister who cans diligently every summer for her family to save money. She gives me some of her canned goods so this would be a way to give back for her kindness.
